Nets Can Keep Predators Out

11th Jan 2014

You can keep unwanted predators out of your pond by using a net to place over it.  Some nets, like our DAPN style nets are light-weight and almost invisible looking when placed on the pond but can provide protection to your valuable koi and other pond fish.

To install, you can place over the pond and pull somewhat tight on it so the net is ideally, off the water.  Anchor on all sides with rocks or stakes.  Other heavy-weight nets may offer greater protection but are more visible, more durable and more expensive.

It boils down to exactly what do you want to accomplish by using a pond net.  Do you want just predator control or do you want to catch a bunch of fallen leaves?  By answering these questions, it will help narrow down what net you choose.

No net will offer 100% predator control but you can use one successfully to deter most predators.

Check out our site for a variety of sizes of pond nets.  We also offer custom size seine nets up to 10' wide by how many feet long you would like.  A seine net is one that has floats on the top and weights on the bottom.  It is used to 'seine' fish out of a pond.  Typically, one person gets on one side of the pond and another person gets on the other side of the pond.  They walk from one end of the pond to the other with the weights flowing along the bottom and the floats on the top.  By strategically bunching and pulling up the net at the opposite end, a lot of fish can be caught.  They come in depths of 4' to 10' deep.  While many folks may not need a seine net for their particular pond, they do make for nice, long nets to cover a stream.  You can order them without the weights and floats so they don't look as obtrusive.

Whatever the reason, placing a net over your pond offers year-round protection.  It can help protect your fish during the cold winter so the slow moving fish don't get plucked out of the pond by a hungry heron.  They can offer protection in Spring, Summer and Fall, too besides be used to prevent debris from entering.
